These swooping pearl-studded stud earrings are adapted from a belt buckle, a functional decoration that enjoyed popularity during the Art Nouveau period (1890-1914) for its ability to showcase the flowing lines and nature-inspired subjects of the style. It also added instant flair to any woman's wardrobe. Adapted from a ca. 1902 design by Jean Baptiste Saint-Yves, French (active 1898-1909) The Kreuzer Collection, The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
